Ben Day Dredd!
The Best of 2000 AD Monthly, February, 1989. Judge Dredd by Brendan McCarthy.
As an update, I just got a message from Nick Abadzis: Yo Steve, Believe it or not, this is one of mine, in that it’s a blow-up of a panel by Brendan that I coloured! Gouache and soluble water pencil. I can remember tracing off Brendan’s signature and forging it over the finished colour.Â
I wondered if it was me who added the Zip-A-Tone, and Nick said it was, so there you have it. A bit of added production info. Check out Nick’s website if you get a chance and see what he’s up to now.
No More Muties!
Prog #202, 7th March, 1981. Cover art by Carlos Ezquerra.
WTF are Griddles?!?
Prog #261, 24th April, 1982. Cover art by Ian Gibson.
Beam Me Up, Dinky!
And last but not least, an unusual Star Trek/Dinky Toy promotion. Prog #140, 24th November, 1979. Cover art by Unknown.
Thanks to the BARNEY covers index for cover artist references. It’s worth noting that as well as being an amazing letterer, Tom Frame was often responsible for coloring the cover art using the blue line process seen here.
Some nice covers. Nice background information about the McCarthy cover.
Love that McCarthy Dredd cover, the colours are great and the halftone is almost op-art.
Griddles were a form of crisp if I remember correctly
