It’s ten days to go until Alien Romulus hits the theaters, and as a fan of the Alien films, I’m really looking forward to the latest in the series. Directed by Fede Álvarez, I have high expectations. I thought he did a great job with his 2013 Evil Dead remake, and Don’t Breathe in 2016.
As I’m on an Alien tip, I’m thinking back to September 2012, when Andrew Martin International invited me to photograph their stand at Maison et Objet, a major French trade fair for interior design in Paris, France. At this time they’d managed to acquire and successfully utilize the Prometheus spaceship from Ridley Scott's film, to display their latest collection of interiors. I thought I’d share some of the photos with you here.
Although I was there to shoot the stand and the collection, I took a fair few shots of the spaceship itself, focusing on some of the details and graphics with my original Secret Oranges blog in mind. This time I’m posting a new selection to accompany others that I posted previously.
Alongside my Canon digital, I decided to take my vintage Rolleiflex camera as well, and I was pretty pleased with the above shot, especially as I don’t recall this suit being seen in the film itself.
The attention to detail was mind-blowing, considering a lot of these sets and props would be seen for a fleeting moment in the film, if at all.
All of the displays were animated and fully functional, as you can see from my video clip above.
This reads Weyland MGP Exoplanet Vehicle Division.
I need to say it again… the attention to detail was astounding. I love these graphics! I’ll leave you to scroll through the rest…
To hypersleep perchance to hyperdream.
Mind the doors!
I managed to get myself in shot for this one. I bought the Pasadena shirt in my local thrift store in East London. Considering three years later I’d find myself living just 16 minutes from Pasadena, it was kind of prescient. Thanks to Leigh Morrison for pressing the shutter, and to Martin Waller for giving me one of these Prometheus eggs for my living room!
I have a strange feeling that my love of Science Fiction was kick-started by my father when I was a kid, by taking me to see some really good SF movies at the local cinema. It would be amiss of me not to mention this because sadly he passed away just over a week ago, so I posted this small tribute in his memory.
Fab photos Steve, as always. Really sorry to hear about your dad. I think my dad absolutely fostered my love of SF, film noir, and even comics, so when I saw the original Alien (probably still my fave) I was in heaven, despite almost having a conniption during the "chest-burster" scene. Take care. x
So sorry about your father.
