Last week we heard of another shocking and dreadful loss of a comics legend, so I thought I would make a short pictorial tribute to honor Kevin O’Neill, and share some of the amazing covers he did for the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic.
When I started designing 2000 AD, I remember finding Kev’s original logo designs for ABC Warriors, Ro-Busters and Nemesis, and realising that I had a lot to live up to. Kev was an incredibly innovative artist and designer, with a graphic sensibility that will never be matched or replicated. He left us far too soon.
Here’s a photo I took of Kev in Westminster, London, sometime in 1988, and what follows are scans of 2000 AD production art featuring his work that I’m lucky to have in my collection.
